The Goblin (“u Fulletu” in Corsican)

That evening, we’re listening to the story of the goblin. Who is he ? He is described as a small man who has one hand made of iron and the other one made of hemp. He gets into houses, mostly in the morning without making any noise. Not everyone has ever met him, but those who have met him on their way won’t forget him soon et when he arrives in a house it is very difficult to make him leave it.

One evening in Castagniccia (a region of Corsica located at 50km from our “college”) a nice miller was still grinding his chestnuts when he heard some noise not far from his mill. Outside, a child was weeping; he was hungry, he was cold so the miller decided to take him home. He wanted to place the child next to the fireplace in order to make him warm but the child went scary as he didn’t want him to see his cloven feet. So the miller left the child alone and went back to his work…

Suddenly, the wheel of the mill stopped. There wasn’t a drop of water left to make it turn. What was going on ? At that moment, he saw the little boy arrive. He was laughing and clapping his hands. He said: “you can go to bed, miller, this evening the wheel won’t turn anymore”. The miller understood that he was facing the goblin and that it would be difficult to get rid of him.

The goblin isn’t nasty but he’s fond of making bad jokes and he becomes a real nuisance .The miller has only one thing in his head: to chase him away !

He thinks about it a long time and suddenly remembers that this strange small character hates mess and keeps tidying up everything…

One morning, he goes into the attic and empties a bag of wheat and one of oat on the ground, taking care of mixing the grains. When the goblin sees that the grains are all mixed up he starts sorting them out but this work is so long and tiring that he soon starts being disheartened.

Sick of all that, he finally leaves the house to the miller’s great relief !

This story is the last before summer break as school ends in two days here , but we hope to exchange lots of things with you next September on this blog or on a Twinspace. We had a great time reading your blog pages and watching your pictures. THANK YOU  AND SEE YOU SOON !

Myths&Legend.

Here’s a myth from a local town.

King Arthur was taken to the Isle of Avalon to be healed of his wounds after the battle of Camalann. Tradition assumes that Arthur died and was buried in Avalon with his Queen. However, there are no sources on the location of his grave. With Avalon’s association with Glastonbury, Arthur is believed to be buried on either the Tor, one of the surrounding cemeteries or the Abbey grounds. today, Glastonbury, which lies in the middle of Somerset,England is miles away from the sea. However, there was once a time the local low farmland was invaded with marsh land. This would have left the Tor and the surrounding hills as islands.

We have loads of myths and Legends to do with King Arthur and Camelot, would you like to hear them?

The Jubilee!

This year the Queen has been on the throne for 60 years, this makes it her diamond jubilee. The Jubilee weekend starts on Saturday the 2nd of June and ends on Tuesday 5th June.

For the Queens diamond Jubilee a song was made called sing. It was written by Gary Barlow(a famous band singer, who’s a very talented songwriter) and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (Talented musical and song writer). The song is sung by many people across the commonwealth, including the military wives choir and featuring Prince Harry playing the tambourine!

For the Jubilee we’re having a celebration barbecue.  Many others will be having street parties because this is an exciting event for everybody in the United Kingdom, and we cannot wait!
